This book tells the story of Elena Fairchild, teacher and mother of 2 school-aged daughters. The society has accomplished to implement new rules to the school system where each child is allocated a Q number, reflecting their level of intelligence and resulting in certain choices -or lack of- in life. Those with a Q number below 8 are taken across the country to enrol in a special state-run boarding school. Unfortunately this applies to her 9 year-old daughter Freddie. Elena will do what she can to get her daughter back.
Master class is an interesting and frightening look into the way a government can control its people. It is written with suspense, giving us a view of some alarming events taking place for those with a lower intelligence level.
The tone is fast paced, there is an urgency. The story makes the reader think about life in this society. It has a descriptive writing style.
