Jonas, a twelve-year-old boy lives in a controlled community where there is no unpleasantness, and where professions are chosen by its leaders. This leads to Jonas becoming the Receiver of Memory where he realises that there are dark secrets kept in his perfect world. Jonas must find courage to do what is right.

It is an enjoyable read where the reader can imagine this so-called ideal world. Until layers are uncovered and we see that it is in fact not as pleasant as Jonas imagined. It is an adventure as we follow Jonas in his quest.

Illustrations are detailed and realistic.

The tone is eerie with a captivating writing style.

The Graphic novel format makes for happy reading. The illustrations help the reader imagine the story with ease, it is shorter with less text to cover.
